RATING COMMITTEE
The rating system of green buildings will be the representation of the values and professional ethics of the Council. The development of a comprehensive, national, voluntary and consensus-based rating system is one of our main priorities.
Our Council has taken on the challenge of developing a National Green Building Rating Tool, a voluntary certification with a broad based consensus representing an important part of the construction industry, conceived to be a tool for market transformation.
LGBC will develop an evaluation system for buildings which intends to impulse and accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices in the national building industry through the implementation of standards, rating tools and general criteria with a solid scientific basis.
At the LGBC, we consider the establishment of the standard rating tool to be a basic requirement for a change in the building market to one that is less harmful to the natural environment.
Lebanon does not have an evaluation system of this nature- and we plan on offering the tools for evaluating all phases of a building’s life, adaptable to diverse typologies.
During its initial phase, the Technical Committee of LGBC will focus on the development of a certification guide for the areas of commercial buildings, governmental and high and average income housing. The LGBC considers these areas to be of great importance, not only because of their general impact on the natural and urban environment, but because they also represent areas with a high market potential for sustainable building.
- To promote sustainable development through the realization and construction of a superior built environment
- To carry out investigations and activities of diffusion of the knowledge, with main approach in the development and the beginning of a national system for the environmental qualification of buildings.
- To stimulate better practices, advanced standards and new technologies for the architecture and the construction.
- To promote the design and construction of buildings that look after the environment.
- To participate in transformation initiatives of the market in favor of a sustainable built environment.
- To collaborate with compatible organizations in related subjects.
Understanding the importance that knowledge is for authentic paradigm change towards sustainability, the LGBC is making every effort to become an important source of information relevant to green building.
