Purpose

 

The term "green buildings" usually is associated with sleek buildings that employ the latest innovations in recycled materials, water saving, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality and environmentally conscious design. The LGBC will develop a comprehensive, national, voluntary and consensus-based rating system for the buildings overall sustainability. Specific standards covering the key areas of the rating system are needed. The standards committee purpose is to work to reduce the negative environmental and human health impacts, and restore positive environmental health of the built environment, based on the best available industry standards.

 

Responsibilities

 

The standards Committee responsibilities are to Develop & promote industry standards targeting professionals related to environmentally responsible buildings, individuals and teams. The committee collaborates with LIBNOR to elaborate, transpose or adapt national standards. To do so, the committee’s plan includes the following tasks:

 

  • Transpose, adapt and promote industry standards related to green buildings.
  • Review and systematically improve the thermal standard for buildings in Lebanon.
  • Develop and systematically improve an energy efficiency buildings code.
  • Outline specific concerns related to the products and systems and give product listings and information designed to help specify sustainable building products.
  • Elaborate an extensive electronic library of specification by type of construction product, construction guide specifications, manuals, standards and many other essential criteria documents.
  • Establish and maintain certification criteria for “Green Label Products”.
  • Develop certification criteria for “Energy Building certificate”.
  • Develop, review and recommend improved and new credits and prerequisites for the LGBC’s rating system for green (new and existing) buildings.
  • Work in coordination with the LGBC’s Educational Committee to identify, oversee, commission, and evaluate short‐term and long‐term research into the technical aspects of green building approaches and technologies, as needed for the purpose of improving the rating system.
  • Work in coordination with LIBNOR and IRI to identify accredited laboratories for certification of building products.
  • Coordinate and manage the work and creation of technical working groups.
  • Discuss and coordinate cross category matters within LBGC.
  • Advise LGBC on technical development priorities for standards and rating systems.
